Alright, alright, maybe flop is a too strong word. But then again. If I announce a product, allow people to order it and do not deliver it for another half a year, then even if one single person pre-orders it I could say: “wooohooo, look at the demand, it has been backordered since it was announced.”
No, I am not a big fan of Kindle. It is ugly, expensive in the long run and the DRM scheme undermines basic book reading “workflow”. Kindle will flop. I still think there is a future for eBooks, but Kindle is not it.
Would my mom use it? Would a geek like me use it (for more then a day)? Answer to both is no. So what is the target audience, the demography of kindle? Starbucks crowd? They already have a notebook and with sub-notebooks and tablets becoming finally usable the potential Kindle market is drying up fast.
But let’s wait and see the sales figures couple of months from now after the early adopters craze weakens and hands-on reviews flood the net…

Yes, I know exactly what you mean. But that’s where my therapy starts. I thought about it and realized I can’t stop checking for email. I need to be online and available, it’s my job. But I can set up my email auto-check for every 15 minutes. And slap myself every time I click the dreaded button.

With RSS it’s a different story. I will try that today. I will check my feeds once, in the morning. That’s it. All through the day I will KNOW that there are new feeds, but I need to learn to stop that thought nagging me. My world will not fall apart if I don’t learn about the 10 tips how to repair broken fridge or that 5 more monks were arrested in Burma. It’s good to know, but I don’t need to know….right now.

It’s a challenge since we are forced to live in “get everything right NOW” world. But it’s time to reclaim our present back and put some real presence into it Good luck man, I will see how long I last…
